St. Mary's College Women's Basketball Stumbles vs. Washington College

St. Mary's City, MD-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Basketball Team (6-6) hosted Washington College (6-4) for an in-state non-conference contest. The Seahawks fell to the Shorewomen by a final score of 57-43.

How It Happened

  • Washington College led by three following the opening 10 minutes of play. Marley Saunders made the splash play of the quarter for the Seahawks, connecting on a triple. St. Mary's trailed 12-9 after one.

  • The Seahawks flipped the momentum in the second quarter following a Sam Blaylock three pointer. Keira Mason and Marley Saunders followed that by each putting in two free throws to give St. Mary's a 20-19 lead. Washington College ended up scoring the final five points of the half to take a four point lead into the locker room.

  • St. Mary's opened up the new half with a Sam Blaylock jumper, but struggled to get much going offensively from there. Halimah Hajhassan hit her first three pointer of the contest and Keira Mason chipped in a layup, but the Seahawks were outscored 13-9 in the quarter.

  • Washington College grew their lead to as much as 12 to begin the final quarter of play. St. Mary's cut into that following two Rayna Miller free throws down the stretch that brought the Seahawks back to within eight points. The Shorewomen went on to slam the door shut, scoring the final six points of the game to take home a 67-43 victory.
