Baltimore, MD-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Basketball Team (5-3) faced off against Notre Dame (MD) (2-7) for a midweek United East Conference Contest. The Seahawks defeated the Gators, 54-46.Â
How It Happened

The Seahawks and Gators started the game neck and neck. With the game tied at 10, St. Mary's gained a slight advantage to end the first quarter after a Keira Mason free throw and Marley Saunders three pointer. The Seahawks led 14-11 going into the second quarter.Â

After a slow start to the quarter offensively for both teams, the Seahawks were able to get some breathing room at the five minute mark. Olivia Liszt chipped in a lay up while Marley Saunders added two more three pointers to give St. Mary's a nine point lead. The Seahawks took a 27-18 lead into the halftime break.Â

The third quarter proved to be a defensive battle with neither team finding much luck scoring the basketball. St. Mary's was able to out score Notre Dame (MD) 8-6 in the quarter Olivia Liszt, Rayna Miller, and Halimah Hajhassan all contributed a basket from the field.Â

 St. Mary's was able to extend their lead to 14 midway through the fourth quarter. The Seahawks made the most of their trips to the free throw line and connected on a couple of crucial layups down the stretch to keep separation between themselves and the Gators. Notre Dame (MD) was able to cut their deficit to six with 1:30 left, but it proved to be too little, too late for the Gators. St. Mary's held on to win 54-46.Â
