Women's Basketball Comeback Attempt Falls Short vs. Gallaudet

St. Mary's City, MD-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Basketball Team (13-9) hosted the Bison of Gallaudet University (15-8) for a mid-week United East Conference Contest. The Seahawks fell to the Bison, 79-72.

How It Happened

  • The Bison led the Seahawks 19-12 after the opening quarter of play. Sam Blaylock contributed two three points for the Seahawks and Melanie Aguilar chipped in four points in the paint. Gallaudet went on a 9-2 run to close out the first 10 minutes of action.

  • Gallaudet took an 11 point lead into halftime. Tramarie Mobray converted on two layups in the quarter for St. Mary's and Olivia Liszt finally got on the board with a made three point attempt. The Bison scored four points in the final nine seconds to extend their lead to double digits at the break.

  • The Seahawks began to chip away at the Bison lead coming out of the half. St. Mary's went on a 10-2 run in the middle of the third quarter that cut the Gallaudet lead to just 3. Sam Blaylock connected on two crucial three pointers to get the Seahawks back in the game. The Bison scored the last four points of the third period to take a seven point lead going into the final 10 minutes.

  • The fourth quarter turned into an offensive showcase as both squads eclipsed 30 points and combined for 60 in total. St. Mary's began to attack the rim aggressively and earned a large number of trips to the free throw line. The Seahawks earned 16 trips to the charity stripe and cashed in on 12 of them. Tramarie Mobray kept the Seahawks within striking distance almost single-handedly. Mobray put in 17 fourth quarter points and did so by converting at the rim and at the free throw line. Despite the strong effort from Mobray, the Seahawks could never completely steal back the momentum, falling 79-72.
