SPARKS GLENCOE, Md. – Sophomore attackman
Joshua Martel (Linthicum, Md./North County) put up a career-best six goals, but the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team came up short in an overtime loss Saturday afternoon (Mar. 30). St. Mary's College (7-3) saw its four-game win streak snapped with a 13-12 extra frame loss to No. 7 Dickinson College (9-1) on Tierney Field at the USA Lacrosse National Headquarters.
How It Happened
- Owen Porter propelled Dickinson to its fourth straight victory with an unassisted goal with 1:44 remaining in the four-minute overtime period.
- The Red Devils drew blood first, but St. Mary's College responded with four unanswered to stake a 4-1 lead at 10:07 as Martel scored twice in the run. Dickinson got two back with two goals in a two-minute span before junior defensive midfielder Quinnten Hatfield (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) sent the Seahawks into the second quarter with a 5-3 lead.
- Dickinson opened the second with a two-goal run and then SMCM answered back in kind to keep it a two-goal margin at 10:35 in favor of the Seahawks. The Red Devils strung together three goals for their first lead (8-7) since 1-0 at 13:46 in the first. However, the squads entered halftime in an 8-8 draw as Martel tallied his fourth of the day with 46 seconds left in the half.
- The Red Devils began the third frame with a 3-1 run to claim an 11-9 edge at 7:39. The back-and-forth continued as St. Mary's College then notched a 3-1 push to knot the game at 12-all with 1:36 to go in the third.
- In the fourth quarter, SMCM outshot Dickinson, 12-6, but Patrick Scarborough made five saves to keep the Seahawks off the board. Additionally, the Red Devils committed seven turnovers to St. Mary's College's two and the teams needed overtime to determine the winner.

- Senior captain Johnny McGrain (Lutherville-Timonium, Md./Dulaney) contributed two goals and one helper while first-year Declan Horton (University Park, Md./DeMatha) chipped in two goals as well.
- Junior defenseman Jeremy Heath (Chester, Md./Kent Island) matched his career-best of three caused turnovers to lead the defense.
- First-year Ty Grove (Finksburg, Md./Saint John's Catholic Prep) finished the game with nine stops and three ground balls.
Dickinson Game Notes
- Owen Porter paced the Red Devils with five goals and one assist while Sam Campbell added a three-goal hat trick.
- Scarborough ended the game with 16 saves and four ground balls.
