SMCM Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Comes in Second at Seahawk Invitational

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's outdoor track & field team took second with 75 points at the Third Annual Seahawk Invitational at the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium on Saturday (Mar. 30).
 
Division II Bowie State University finished first with 142 points while fellow United East Conference member, Gallaudet University, placed third with 58 points.
 
St. Mary's College registered three program records as well as 27 personal records.
 
How It Happened
  • Senior captain Betsy Robey (Kensington, Md./Stone Ridge) captured the 1500m with a personal record of 5:21.00 while first-year Kaylee Holston (Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown) finished third with a personal record of 5:33.05.
  • First-year Alexis Hodges (Sugarland, Texas/Chopticon [Md.]) notched a personal record of 6:25.48 for fifth in the 1500m run.
 
  • Robey led a 1-2-3-4 sweep of the 5000m as she won with a personal-best time of 21:19.06 while first-year Madison Kingsley (White Hall, Md./North Harford) came in second with a PR of 22:22.12.
  • First-year Weiya Carter (Towson, Md./Towson) placed third with a personal record of 22:23.91 while senior Stacie Lally (Fallston, Md./Fallston) posted a season-best time of 24:05.06 for fourth.
 
  • Sophomore Chay'La Rivers (Baltimore, Md./Reach! Partnership) claimed the win in the 400m hurdles with a school record and personal-best time of 1:12.01, knocking off her own mark of 1:19.64 set on April 22, 2023.
  • Sophomore Dina Jones (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) took third in 1:21.18.
 
  • The foursome of first-year Avery Arizzi (Arnold, Md./Broadneck), sophomore Savannah Owens (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson), fifth-year Ariat Ojulu (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk), and senior captain Brittney Douglas (Port Republic, Md./Calvert) crossed the finish line first in the 4x400m relay with a school record of 4:14.31, surpassing the previous mark of 4:18.02 from two weeks ago.
 
  • Douglas added a second-place finish in the 800m run with a season-best time of 2:26.27 while Owens came in third with a personal record of 2:26.85 and Arizzi finished fourth with a PR of 2:31.82.
 
  • The foursome of sophomore Addie Ostendorf-Snell (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key), Rivers, sophomore Tramarie Mobray (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie), and Ojulu went second in the 4x100m relay in 53.83.
 
  • First-year Jillian Zukley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) came in second in the shot put with a throw of 11.73m while first-year Safiya Stimely (Linthicum, Md./Broadneck) finished eighth with a personal-best throw of 9.21m.
 
  • Zukley notched a third-place finish in the hammer throw with a personal record of 33.01m while Stimely placed fifth with a personal-best throw of 30.41m.
  • Sophomore Nayev Pumphrey (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) took seventh with a PR of 29.50m while sophomore captain Fladaina Bruno (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) rounded out the top-8 with a personal record of 29.29m.
 
  • Zukley picked up a third-place finish in the discus throw with a personal-best throw of 33.86m while Stimely grabbed another eighth-place finish with a PR of 28.46m.
 
  • Rivers led the Seahawks in the high jump with a third-place finish as she notched a PR of 1.45m while posting a personal record of 4.64m in the long jump for sixth place.
 
  • Senior Amira Whitaker (Silver Spring, Md./Einstein) set a school record in the javelin throw with a personal-best throw of 19.39m for fourth place. Whitaker displaced the previous mark of 17.37m by Alana Thompson '23 on May 8, 2023.
  • Mobray finished fifth with a PR of 17.20m.
 
  • Rivers finished fourth in the preliminaries of the 100m dash in 13.09 while Ojulu went 10th in the 200m dash with a personal record of 28.31.
 
  • Ojulu was the team's highest finisher in the 400m dash with a fourth-place finish as she clocked a season-best time of 1:06.31.
  • Sophomore Chloe Tolson (Waldorf, Md./North Point) came in fifth with a personal record of 1:07.06 while Jones took sixth with a personal record of 1:08.96.
