SMCM Men’s Lacrosse Locks Up No. 1 Seed on Senior Day

ST. MARY'S COLLEGE, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team wrapped up their second straight undefeated United East Conference record Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. St. Mary's College (11-4, 5-0 UEC) downed Keystone College (6-8, 3-1 UEC), handing the Giants their first league loss of the season.

With today's victory, the Seahawks claim the top seed in the upcoming United East Men's Lacrosse Tournament Championship, which begins April 30 with semifinal action. SMCM now owns a 14-1 conference record in its three years as a United East member.

Prior to the start of the game, St. Mary's College recognized its nine seniors – Austin Borns (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford), Brendan Connelly (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall), Brandon Dabkowski (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney), Billy Higgins (New Market, Md./Linganore), Bryce Howard (North Beach, Md./Northern), Ethan Little (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright), Mark LoPresto (Elkton, Md./Tome), Johnny McGrain (Lutherville-Timonium, Md./Dulaney), and Brett Weiner (Reisterstown, Md./Dulaney) – for their years of leadership and dedication.

How It Happened

From there, SMCM rattled off 19 unanswered goals to stake a 21-1 advantage with 5:14 remaining in the third quarter.

  • The Giants strung together a 2-0 run with goals from Cam Wallace and Smith in a 39-second span, but the momentum fizzled as St. Mary's College closed out the game on an 8-1 run.
