Seahawks Baseball Splits with Penn State Abington

St. Mary's City, MD-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Baseball Team (5-14) hosted a mid-day doubleheader against the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington (9-16). The Seahawks dropped the first game 13-11, but came back to win the second game 4-3

How It Happened (Game 1)

  • The Seahawks started fast with three runs in the bottom of the first. Cole Tarleton recorded an RBI single while Adrian Auber got his RBI off of a sac fly. St. Mary's was able to score one unearned run as well.

  • The Nittany Lions responded with a run in the top of the second.

  • St. Mary's was able to put another three runs on the board in the bottom of the second. Cole Tarleton was able to drive two runners home after the first three batters all reached base on singles. George Berbakos gave the Seahawks a 6-1 lead off of a sac fly RBI.

  • Penn State Abington scored three runs in the top of the third.

  • The Seahawks were able to score at least one run for three straight innings as Adrian Auber reached home plate after a Garrett Pullium ground out to take a 7-4 lead.

  • The Nittany Lions had a six run top of the fourth to take a 10-7 lead.

  • Garrett Pullium and Adrian Auber each recorded an RBI in the bottom of the fifth to trim the Abington lead to one.

  • Derrick Booker would reach home after doubling earlier in the bottom of the eighth inning thanks to an RBI from George Berbakos to tie the game. 

  • Penn State Abington took the lead right back with a three run top of the ninth.

  • The Seahawks added one run in the bottom of the ninth, but the comeback would stop there. The Nittany Lions took game one, 13-11.

How It Happened (Game 2)

  • Penn State Abington struck first in the top of the first.

  • Aaron Wathen got the Seahawks on the board in the bottom of the second with an RBI double that scored Adrain Auber who walked earlier in the inning.

  • Cole Tarleton gave St. Mary's their first lead of the day after an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Derrick Booker would score after getting hit by a pitch in his at bat.

  • Cole Tarleton continued his hot streak from the plate, breaking the game open in the bottom of the sixth with a two run double to give the Seahawks a 4-1 lead.

  • The Nittany Lions would threaten in the top of the seventh, scoring two and loading the bases with two outs. The Seahawk came up clutch and were able to strand those runners to take home a victory in the second game, 4-3.

Inside the Box Score (Game 2)

  • Cole Tarleton had three hits and three RBI's.

  • Aaron Wathen had two hits and an RBI.

  • Ryder Chalk pitched a complete nine innings, gave up three earned runs, and struck out five batters.
