Seahawks Baseball Keeps Season Alive with a 17-10 Victory Over Penn State Abington

Harrisburg, PA-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Baseball Team (11-19) matched up against the second seeded Nittany Lions (13-26) in day two of the United East Conference Playoffs. The Seahawks kept their season alive with a 17-10 victory. 

How It Happened

  • St. Mary's was able to strike first in the top of the first after Chase O'Dell scored on a wild pitch. O'Dell singled earlier in the inning. 

  • Penn State Abington had a five run first inning to take a 5-1 lead.

  • The Seahawks responded with a six run top of the second. Layne Lesko recorded an RBI single, while Derrick Booker was walked with the bases loaded to get another runner across home plate. The game broke open on a Chase O'Dell home run with the bases loaded. O'Dell's grand slam gave the Seahawks a 7-5 lead.

  • The Nittany Lions added another run in the bottom of the second.

  • St. Mary's added to their lead in the top of the fourth with two RBI's from Aaron Wathen and Trevor Smith to make it a 9-6 ball game.

  • Abington added one run in the bottom of the fourth.

  • Aaron Wathen and Trevor Smith each added an RBi single in the top of the fifth while Cole Tarleton connected on an RBI double to reach 14 runs on the day. 

  • The Nittany Lions added one run on the bottom of the fifth and sixth to make it 14-9 in favor of St. Mary's. 

  • Trevor Smith kept the offense going for the Seahawks in the top of the seventh, contributing an RBI single that scored Ian Walters from first. Kyle Cantazro added an RBi sac fly in the inning as well.

  • The Seahawks added one more insurance run in the top of the eighth to get to their 17th tally of the day. 

  • The Nittany Lions added one more run in the bottom of the ninth, but would be held there. The Seahawks would hold on to win 17-10.
