ERIE, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's indoor track & field team placed second at the inaugural United East Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday (May 5) while collecting three of the major awards.
First-year
Jillian Zukley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) had herself a weekend as Zukley seized both the United East Women's Rookie of the Year award and was named the United East Women's Co-Field Athlete of the Year after capturing top honors in all three of her events.
Additionally, sophomore
Chay'La Rivers (Baltimore, Md./Reach! Partnership) was tabbed the United East Women's Co-Track Athlete of the Year after reaching the podium in six events.
St. Mary's College notched second in the 10-team field with 159.5 points after posting 16 personal-bests and breaking six school records.
In addition, sophomore
Dina Jones (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) picked up her second Elite 20 Award.
How It Happened
- Zukley captured the discus throw with 34.84m and then claimed first place in the hammer throw with a personal and school record of 43.82m, displacing her own record of 36.01m from April 19. She also garnered top honors in the shot put with 11.83m.
- Rivers finished first in the 100m hurdles with a personal-best and school record time of 16.06, breaking her own mark of 16.98 from March 15. She also earned a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles with a personal and school record of 1:10.34, surpassing her own record of 1:12.01 from March 30.
- Twice, Rivers broke the school record for the 100m dash. She first broke it in the preliminaries with a time of 12.91, knocking off 0.02 seconds from her previous record of 12.93 from May 6, 2023. Rivers placed fifth in the event with a personal-best and school record time of 12.84, shaving off another 0.07 seconds.
- Rivers added a fourth-place finish in the high jump with 1.37m while taking fifth in the triple jump with 9.47m. She also came in ninth in the long jump with 4.43m.
- Senior captain Brittney Douglas (Port Republic, Md./Calvert) won the 800m run in 2:26.46 and placed fourth in the 1500m run with a personal record of 5:13.18.
- Junior Elise Kinyanjui (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) claimed a silver medal in the high jump with a height of 1.47m.
- The foursome of fifth-year Ariat Ojulu (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk), Douglas, and sophomores Chloe Tolson (Waldorf, Md./North Point) and Savannah Owens (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) placed second in the 4x400m relay in 4:14.68.
- Senior captain Betsy Robey (Kensington, Md./Stone Ridge) finished third in the 3000m steeplechase with a personal record of 13:20.05 while coming in third as well in the 1500m with a personal-best time of 5:10.66. She placed third in the 5000m in 20:46.23.
- Owens took third in the 400m run with a personal-best and school record time of 1:01.16, breaking her own mark of 1:01.33 from April 20. Owens placed fourth in the 800m in 2:27.84.
- First-year Madison Kingsley (White Hall, Md./North Harford) garnered a third-place finish in the 10,000m run in 49:16.63 while coming in sixth in the 5000m run in 23:18.44.
- First-year Safiya Stimely (Linthicum, Md./Broadneck) finished fifth in the discus throw with 29.65m while senior Amira Whitaker (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) came in sixth in the shot put with a personal record of 10.09m.
- First-year Weiya Carter (Towson, Md./Towson) notched a fifth-place finish in the 5000m in 22:28.43 while tallying a seventh-place finish in the 1500m in 5:50.44
- First-year Kaylee Holston (Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown) notched a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 1500m run (5:36.37) and the 800m run (2:42.02).
- Jones came in sixth in the 400m hurdles with a personal-best time of 1:15.31 while taking seventh in the 100m hurdles with a personal record of 20.18.
- Rivers, first-year Avery Arizzi (Arnold, Md./Broadneck), sophomore Tramarie Mobray (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie), and Ojulu came in seventh in the 4x100m relay in 56.81.
- First-year Weiya Carter (Towson, Md./Towson) tallied a seventh-place finish in the 1500m in 5:50.44 while sophomore captain Fladaina Bruno (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) registered two personal records – one in the hammer throw with 32.25m for eighth and one in the discus throw with 23.44m for 16th place.
- Ojulu took eighth in the 400m dash in 1:04.93 while Tolson placed ninth with a personal record of 1:05.24.
- Arizzi posted a personal record of 27.70 in the preliminaries of the 200m dash while Tolson clocked a personal-best time of 29.46.
- Mobray led the Seahawks in the javelin throw with 16.23m for a 16th-place finish.
