SALISBURY, Md. – Sophomore forward
Franco Reyes (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) registered his second career brace Friday evening (Aug. 30) in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team to a season-opening victory. St. Mary's College (1-0) set up a 3-0 halftime lead and never looked back on its way to a 4-1 non-conference win over The College of New Jersey (0-1) at Salisbury University's Elmer Lord Tournament.
How It Happened
- Senior forward Abdoul Anounkou (Togo/Springbrook [Md.]) opened the scoring for the Seahawks in the 21st minute before Reyes netted his first of the evening just over two minutes later for a 2-0 SMCM lead at 22:51.
- St. Mary's College headed into halftime with a three-goal cushion after first-year midfielder Zach Blaum (Richmond, Va./Atlee) tallied his first goal as a Seahawk in the 34th minute.
- Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Reyes found the back of the net once again to push the SMCM lead to 4-0 at 53:14.
- TCNJ avoided a shutout in the 60th minute when Sam Snyder converted a pass from Lucas Sample for his first goal of the season.
