SALISBURY, Md. – Senior forward
Alex Ochman (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) netted his first goal of the season Saturday afternoon (Aug. 31) as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team wrapped up action at Salisbury University's Elmer Lord Tournament. St. Mary's College (1-1) dropped a 6-1 decision to Rowan University (1-1) for a 1-1 record at the tournament.
How It Happened
- Rowan scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the game as Johnny Troiano and Ryan Cleary netted goals less than two minutes apart.
- The Seahawks cut their deficit in half in the 15th minute with Ochman's tally. Sophomore midfielder Braden Kindred (Olney, Md./Sherwood) intercepted a Rowan pass and dribbled a few yards before splitting the defense with a slot pass that Ochman ran onto and finished into the lower right corner.
- Mo Bocher gave the Profs a 3-1 lead at 31:28 before Troiano notched his second of the afternoon, converting a penalty kick in the 34th minute for a 4-1 advantage.
- Troiano finished off the hat trick at 37:49 to send Rowan into the break with a 5-1 cushion.
- Sophomore Jordon Eckman (Fallston, Md./Loyola Blakefield) and the SMCM defense kept the Profs off the scoreboard for most of the second half.
- Andrew Santoro broke through in the 87th minute to seal the 6-1 triumph for Rowan.
Inside the Box Score
- Rowan owned an 18-6 (10-2 on goal) shot advantage at the end of game while doubling up the Seahawks, 4-2, in corner kicks.
St. Mary's College
- Eckman finished the game with four stops.
- Sophomore forward Franco Reyes (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) led the Seahawks with two shots (one on goal).
Rowan
- Troiano paced the Profs with three goals on the day and fired off a team-best five shots (four on goal).
- Dylan Aportela needed just one save to record the win in goal.
