Horn Lifts Seahawks Field Hockey to First Win of 2024

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Senior captain Charlotte Horn (Schnecksville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) notched her first career game-winning goal to propel the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team to their first victory of the season Sunday afternoon (Sept. 1). The Seahawks (1-1) claimed a 1-0 non-conference triumph over the visiting Sewanee Tigers (0-2).

How It Happened
  • St. Mary's College ended the first period with the would-be game-winning goal on its fourth penalty corner. Junior forward Briana Allen (Bowie, Md./Mount de Sales) inserted the ball up to Horn, who rocketed a shot into the lower far right corner with 1:37 left in the quarter.
  • SMCM continued to make inroads into the circle over the remaining three stanzas, but Sewanee was able to keep the Seahawks at bay.
  • The Tigers penetrated the circle throughout the game, but the St. Mary's College defense held them shotless.
