ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Junior forward
Brenna Ziegler (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) scored her first goal of the season three minutes into overtime to lift the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team to a non-conference win Wednesday evening (Sept. 11). St. Mary's College (2-2) edged out Randolph-Macon College (2-2), 4-3, in a game that featured six goals in the first 30 minutes of the game.
How It Happened
- Junior forward Emma Watkins (Frederick, Md./Linganore) gave the Seahawks an early 1-0 lead as Watkins found the back of the cage less than two minutes into the game for her first tally of the season.
- Sophomore midfielder Tori Hampton (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) doubled SMCM's advantage at 13:31 with a rocket into the lower right corner for her first goal of the season as well.
- Randolph-Macon cut its deficit in half just seconds before the end of the first quarter when Ashlyn White converted on a penalty stroke.
- Watkins struck again just 19 seconds into the second period to put St. Mary's College up by two once again.
- Natalie Moul spearheaded a 2-0 run by the Yellow Jackets that would knot the contest at 2-2 at 28:47. Moul notched an unassisted goal at 25:05 before assisting on Llana Thach's score just over three minutes later.
- The Seahawks outshot R-MC, 4-0, over the final 30 minutes but Valentina Ambrogi-Torres turned away two of those shots to preserve the 3-3 draw, sending the game into overtime and setting the stage for Ziegler's heroics.

- Sophomore Caroline McDonald (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) made two saves in the win.
- Watkins led the Seahawks with two goals while Ziegler finished with a team-best seven shots.
Randolph-Macon
- Moul was the offensive leader for the Yellow Jackets with a goal and an assist plus tying for the team-lead with two shots.
- Ambrogi-Torres finished with eight saves while Anna Scheir added a defensive save.
