Seahawks Men’s Soccer Shut Out at Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team notched their fifth loss of the season Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 25) as St. Mary's College (1-5-2) dropped a 3-0 non-conference decision to Salisbury University (5-2-1), who is ranked fourth in this week's United Soccer Coaches Region VI poll.

How It Happened
  • Salisbury notched its first goal of the afternoon in the 18th minute when Gavin Miller ripped a left-footed shot from 20 yards out into the near lower left corner.
  • The Seahawks first shot on target came in the 42nd minute when junior defender Xavier Lewis (Severn, Md./Old Mill) flicked first-year forward William Mabray's (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) corner kick towards goal, but Clif Nehman was there to stop it.
  • SMCM's next attempt on goal came in the 55th minute when senior forward Alex Ochman (Rockville, Md./Wootton) lofted a shot from the left side of the penalty box right at Nehman at the near post.
  • Eric Howard doubled the Sea Gulls' lead at 77:15 as Howard, who was the PK spot, headed in Martin Parrish's cross from the right side into the lower left corner.
  • St. Mary's College had an opportunity to pull within one a minute later when Lewis fired a point-blank shot from seven yards out and Nehman did just enough to tip the ball over the crossbar.
  • SU added another one with less than 20 seconds to go as Brady Young found the back of the net.
