St. Mary's College Women's Soccer Keeps it Rolling with a 1-0 Win Over Marymount

Arlington, VA. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Soccer Team (8-1-1) traveled to the Nation's Capital for a non-conference matchup with Marymount (1-6-2). The Seahawks defeated the Saints, 1-0. 

How it Happened

  • St. Mary's once again used a fast start to seize all of the momentum.12 minutes in, Ashlyn Bonner was awarded a free kick just inside the lower boundary. Bonner sent a high arching ball to the back post where Allie Petryszak positioned herself perfectly to head the ball in and give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead. 

  • St. Mary's took their 1-0 lead into halftime. The Seahawks out shot the Saints 6-3 in the first half. The St. Mary's defense held Marymount to zero shots on goal. 

  • Marymount had their first true scoring opportunity in the 66th minute, but Kyleigh Bland was up to the task, making her first save of the game. 

  • The Seahawks had a chance to double their lead with a Gracie Duch shot on goal in the 68th minute, but were turned away. 

  • Despite being out shot by Marymount 6-2 in the second half, St. Mary's was able to hold on, winning 1-0.

  • Allie Petryszak netted her third goal of the year. 

  • Brooke Hall paced the Seahawks in shots with two. 

  • Kyleigh Bland was asked to make just one save in the contest. 

  • The Seahawks recorded their third straight clean sheet.
