Lexington, VA- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Volleyball team (3-2) matched up against the Generals of Washington & Lee (6-0) and the Averett Panthers (2-3) for day two of the W&L Quad Match. The Seahawks fell to the Generals in game one, 3-0, and beat the Panthers in game two, 3-2.

How it Happened

The Seahawks and Generals traded points to begin the match before Washington & Lee began to take control. The Generals went on two separate runs of four straight points and took the opening set, 25-15. Washington & Lee took advantage of seven St. Mary's attacking errors.Â

St. Mary's came out hot to begin the second set and led 9-5. Despite the strong start to the set, it was all Generals from that point forward. Washington & Lee came back to tie the Seahawks at 10 points a piece. The General then used a five point run to take full control of the set and force St. Mary's into a timeout. St. Mary's continued to chip away at the General lead, but Washington & Lee held on in the second set, winning 25-18.

The Generals continued to use scoring runs to remain in control of the game. Washington & Lee led by as much as eight in the set and cruised to a 25-17 victory to claim the match.Â

How it Happened

The Seahawks and Panthers began the match trading points. At 7-7, the Panthers began to capture the momentum, creating a 13-8 advantage. The Seaahwks would not get closer than four the remainder of the set. Averett took set one, 25-16.

St. Mary's came out of the gates fast, scoring the first five points of the second set. Averett would fight back, but the Seahawks continued to score in bunches. St. Mary's took set two, 25-16.Â

Averett started the third set fast, scoring the first three points. The Seahawks would respond by scoring eight straight points of their own to successfully capture the momentum. The Panthers continued to fight, but the Seahawks never let them get within striking distance. St. Mary's won set three, 25-13.Â

The Panthers once again started fast and jumped out to a 6-1 lead. The Seahawks responded with a run of their own and shrunk the Averett lead to just two at 12-10. After a back and forth middle of the set, Averett used a four point run to propel them to a 25-18 set victory.Â

In the fifth and final set, the Seahawks and Panthers traded points and were knotted at five a piece to begin the set. St. Mary's produced a massive three point run to capture an 8-5 lead. With the score at 9-7, The Seahawks went on another run, this time it was four points to claim a 13-7 lead. St. Mary's took the set 15-9 and the match 3-2.Â
