ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team saw their two-game win streak snapped Saturday afternoon (Jan. 18) with an overtime loss. St. Mary's College (9-8, 5-3 UEC) was outscored 13-9 in overtime as Lancaster Bible College (11-6, 6-2 UEC) pulled out a 92-88 United East Conference triumph.
How It Happened
- The Seahawks held an 82-81 lead in the first minute of the extra frame before the Chargers closed out the game with an 11-6 run. Nine of LBC's 11 points in run came from Grant Sareyka.
- Lancaster Bible won the first half, 39-34, as the Chargers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game. The visitors grew their lead to 12-2 at 12:59.
- SMCM knotted the game twice in the final minute, but LBC held on for the five-point advantage at halftime as Luke Rumbaugh notched the final five points of the half.
- St. Mary's College claimed its first lead of the game at 18:35 in the second half as sophomore guard Kyree Smith (Baltimore, Md./City) connected on two free throws to give his team a 40-39 lead, capping a 6-0 start to the second half.
- The lead changed hands back-and-forth over the next three minutes until the Seahawks used a 24-14 run to establish a 71-63 advantage with 5:11 remaining in the game. Smith led the charge with nine points in the rally while first-year forward Yassine Idrissa (Rockville, Md./Wootton) added seven.
- The hosts owned a 79-76 lead with 27 seconds left in regulation as sophomore guard James Lerner (Herndon, Va./Maret) made the first of two free throws. Camden Hurst grabbed the defensive rebound of the missed free throw, allowing Connor Storr to drain a game-tying triple with 13 ticks on the clock.
- Junior captain Jake Koverman's (Severna Park, Md./Southern) attempted three-pointer as time expired was blocked by Grant Sareyka and the game headed into overtime.
Inside the Box Score
- The two teams combined for 70 free throw attempts. St. Mary's College connected on 26-of-35 free throws while the Chargers were 27-of-35 at the charity stripe.
- The Seahawks finished the game shooting 50-percent from the field, including 54.5-percent in the first half. SMCM connected on only four of its 16 three-point attempts.
- Lancaster Bible collected 12 steals as the Charger defense forced St. Mary's College into 21 miscues.

- Smith led all scorers with 27 on 12-of-18 shooting while adding a season-best two blocks and two rebounds.
- Idrissa recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and a game- and career-best 14 caroms. He also chipped in four blocks, three assists, and a career-best two steals.
- Koverman registered his second straight double-double with 14 points and 10 boards. He dished out a career-high five assists as well.
- First-year guard James Crimaudo (Riva, Md./South River) came off the bench to contribute career-bests of 13 points and eight rebounds while Lerner chipped in a dozen points and two dimes.
Lancaster Bible Game Notes
- Sareyka led the Chargers with 24 points and seven boards as LBC won its second straight game.
