BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team dropped their second straight game Monday afternoon (Jan. 20), falling by nine points to the top team in the United East Conference. Host Bryn Athyn College (10-8, 8-1 UEC) completed the season series sweep of St. Mary's College (9-9, 5-4 UEC) with a 74-65 triumph in Asplundh Field House.
How It Happened
- The first half featured six tied scores and six lead changes. First-year forward Yassine Idrissa (Rockville, Md./Wootton) handed the Seahawks their final lead of the game, 27-26, at 2:06 before the Lions closed out the half on a 9-0 run to claim a 35-27 halftime advantage.
- Sophomore guard James Lerner (Herndon, Va./Maret) opened the second half for SMCM with a three-pointer to make it a five-point game within the first 20 seconds.
- Bryn Athyn then outscored the visitors, 10-3, over the next five minutes to stretch its lead to 45-33 at 14:35, capitalizing on five missed field goals and two turnovers by St. Mary's College.
- The Seahawks clawed their way back into the game, trimming a 12-point deficit to four at 8:02 with a 12-4 run as sophomore guard Kyree Smith (Baltimore, Md./City) led the way with seven points.
- SMCM would get no closer as the Lions responded with an 11-2 run to establish a 13-point margin with 4:49 remaining in the game.

- Lerner hauled in a season-best five caroms while dishing out five dimes.

- Will Little led all scorers with 18 while collecting a team-best seven rebounds as the Lions won their fifth straight.
