St. Mary's City, MD-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Basketball Team (11-7) welcomed Gallaudet University (10-8) to campus for a United East Conference matchup. The Seahawks dropped a hard fought contest, 61-64.

The Seahawks came out of the gate fast, creating a 19-10 lead after the first quarter of play. Sam Blaylock led the way with five points as St. Mary's knocked down three triples early to set the tone.

St.Mary's grew their lead to as much as 14 in the second quarter after a made Sam Blaylock three pointer midway through the quarter. The Seahawks and Bison traded shots down the stretch of the first half. St. Mary's took a 34-21 lead into the halftime break. Olivia Liszt had a strong quarter for the Seahawks, chipping in five points.Â

St. Mary's began to cool down from the field in the third quarter. The Seahawks only converted six third quarter points. The Bison worked back into the game and tied the game at 40 going into the final 10 minutes.Â

Sam Blaylock came up clutch for the Seahawks in the opening part of the fourth quarter. Blaylock knocked down a three pointer to kick off the period and then once again at the seven minute mark to re-tie the game after a Gallaudet run. The Bison retook the lead shortly after and the Seahawks could never knock down the needed shot to re-take the lead. St. Mary's consistently trailed by a basket down the final stretch. Ultimately, St. Mary's fell to Gallaudet 61-54.Â
