St. Mary's City, MD-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Basketball Team (12-7) hosted United East Conference rival Notre Dame of Maryland (9-12) for a home contest. The Seahawks defeated the Gators 54-51.

How It Happened

  • The Seahawks came out of the gates fast, gaining a 16-7 lead over the Gators after the first quarter of play. Sam Blaylock chipped in eight points, six of which were off of three pointers. Olivia Liszt and Keira Mason each made their presence felt on the offensive side of the ball as well.

  • St. Mary's grew their lead to as large as 12 midway through the second quarter. Sidney Shaw began to get in on the scoring action, knocking down a huge triple. Keira Mason continued to make an impact in the paint as well. Despite the strong start to the quarter, it would be Notre Dame who seized the momentum going into the halftime break. The Gators scored the final eight points of the quarter and only trailed the Seahawks 30-28 going into the second half.

  • The third quarter played out to be a defensive battle with neither team getting much going from the field. Keira Mason chipped in six third quarter points as St. Mary's led 42-35 going into the final 10 minutes.

  • St. Mary's tried to hold on for a majority of the fourth quarter while Notre Dame inched closer and closer. A Gator basket with 22 seconds left finally tied the game up at 51 a piece. Coming off of a time out, the Seahawks were able to respond with a three pointer from Sam Blaylock to retake the lead with 15 seconds left. St. Mary's forced Notre Dame into a missed three pointer with one second left as the Seahawks went on to win 54-51.
