Seahawks Men’s Soccer Takes Down Penn State Brandywine

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Forwards William Marbray (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and Franco Reyes (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) each notched a goal and an assist in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team to their second straight win Wednesday night (Oct. 1). St. Mary's College (5-5-1, 2-0-0 UEC) earned a 5-1 United East Conference victory over Penn State Brandywine (1-9-0, 0-2-0 UEC).
 
How It Happened
  • Reyes put the Seahawks on the scoreboard first as he put away a pass from senior captain Ryan Cooper (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) at 4:03.
  • Sophomore forward Nick Haney (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) doubled the home team's lead as Haney converted a penalty kick at 19:30.
  • SMCM claimed a 3-0 lead at 33:03 as first-year forward Matthew Kuwik (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) put back the rebound from Marbray's shot for his first goal as a Seahawk.
  • Junior defender Jake Robey (Kensington, Md./Georgetown Prep) joined the party six minutes later with his first career goal as Robey fired back the rebounded save of junior midfielder Tyler Foti's (Annandale, Va./Annandale) shot.
  • St. Mary's College headed into halftime with a 4-1 lead after Derek Lopez finished off a feed from Dakari Burton at 41:14 to avoid the shutout.
  • In the second half, the Seahawks outshot Brandywine, 12-0, and posted a 5-0 margin in corner kicks.
  • Marbray rounded out the scoring as he put in a cross from Reyes at 83:29.

  • SMCM finished the game with a 32-3 shot advantage, including a 16-3 margin for shots on goal.
