ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team continued to roll Saturday afternoon (Oct. 18), picking up their fifth consecutive shutout victory. St. Mary's College (10-4, 2-0 UEC) blanked Cedar Crest College (2-11, 0-3 UEC), 8-0, in United East Conference action.
How It Happened
- The Seahawks started scoring at 2:43 and never looked back. SMCM owned a 3-0 lead by 13:15 as senior forward Brenna Ziegler (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) scored twice.
- St. Mary's College tacked on four more goals in the second quarter for a 7-0 halftime advantage. Four different Seahawks found the back of the cage with goals coming off the sticks of senior forward Emma Watkins (Frederick, Md./Linganore), senior midfielder Josie Shermeyer (Harrisburg, Pa./East Pennsboro), sophomore forward Olivia Schwendeman (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge), and first-year Kristina Wujciak (Gainesville, Va./Gainesville).
- SMCM was quiet in the third frame, taking just one shot.
- Schwendeman notched her second of the afternoon with less than four minutes left in the game to round out the scoring.

- St. Mary's College outshot the Falcons, 30-0, including 16-0 in shots on goal.
- The Seahawks also owned a 14-0 margin in penalty corners.

- Sophomore goalie Sophia Kent (Chesterville, Md./Gunston) started the game and played the first two quarters while junior Caroline McDonald (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) saw action in the third period and first-year Alexa Yingling (Hollywood, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) came in for the final 15 minutes. The trio combined for the team's eighth clean sheet of the season.
- Schwendeman led St. Mary's College with career-bests of two goals and five points while senior forward Elena Pasko (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) dished out a season-high two assists.
- Ziegler also finished the game with two goals.

- Shelby Heater finished the game with 22 saves as Cedar Crest lost its ninth in a row.
