WESTMINSTER, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's volleyball team went the distance Thursday night but came up just short, falling 3-2 (25-22, 25-17, 25-27, 18-25, 15-10) on the road against McDaniel College at the Gill Center. With the result, the Seahawks move to 6-9 on the season, while the Green Terror improve to 8-6.
The Seahawks showed resilience after dropping the first two sets, storming back with a gritty 27-25 win in the third frame before evening the match with a dominant 25-18 victory in set four. McDaniel, however, pulled away late in the decisive fifth set to secure the home win.
Offensively, Maya Mauro led the way for St. Mary's with 11 kills, adding nine digs and two service aces. Julia Bobrowski chipped in six kills and three block assists, while Faith Shockley contributed five kills and a team-high five block assists. Sanaa Porter was efficient with four kills on a .375 hitting percentage along with a service ace.
On the defensive end, libero Stella Marrero anchored the back row with nine digs, while Elizabeth Childs and Lauren Panageotou added 10 and seven digs, respectively. Panageotou also guided the offense with 12 assists.
As a team, the Seahawks totaled 45 kills, 12 service aces, and 12 block assists across the five-set contest.
St. Mary's will return to action on Saturday, October 4, when they travel to face Penn State Harrisburg in a 1:00 p.m. United East matchup.
