ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team posted another comeback win Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 22), erasing a two-goal deficit with three unanswered goals. St. Mary's College (11-5-1) collected a 4-3 non-conference win over Regent University (3-11-1) as sophomore forward
Nick Haney (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) netted the game-winning goal with less than three minutes left in regulation.
How It Happened
- Raik Peter put the Royals on the scoreboard first with a free kick from 50 yards out in the eighth minute.
- The Seahawks responded right away as junior forward Lucas Evans (Greenbelt, Md./South River) found junior forward Sam Santos (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) for the game-tying goal 30 seconds later.
- Regent claimed a 3-1 lead at 25:21 with two goals in a 10-minute span as Jonathan Deho-Amaya and Isaiah Morris both found the back of the net.
- Junior forward Franco Reyes (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) cut the Royals' lead in half with an unassisted goal at 41:43 to send SMCM into the halftime down just one goal.
- Junior defender Trey Magnaye (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) netted the second game-tying goal for St. Mary's College with 3:40 left in regulation as Magnaye put away a loose ball in the box for his first collegiate goal.
- Haney tallied his team-leading fourth game-winning goal just over a minute later as senior midfielder Ned Schauermann (Edgewater, MD./South River) found Haney in the middle of the penalty box with a short pass and Haney finished into the lower left corner.
