St. Mary’s College Men’s Soccer Scores Six in United East Win

BALTIMORE, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team put up a season-best six goals Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 7). St. Mary's College (7-5-1, 4-0-0 UEC) notched its fourth consecutive win with a 6-0 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland University (1-6-3, 1-2-1 UEC) in United East Conference action.
 
How It Happened
  • Senior defender Jack Nelson (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) started the scoring for the Seahawks in the 19th minute as Nelson finished off a feed from junior forward Sam Santos (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills). SMCM then moved to 2-0 with an own goal from Notre Dame (Md.) at 33:25.
  • St. Mary's College headed into halftime with a three-goal cushion as senior defender Xavier Lewis (Severn, Md./Old Mill) found the back of the net with his first goal of the season at 42:26.
  • The Seahawks scored twice in a two-minute span to claim a 5-0 lead by the 50th minute. Sophomore midfielder Zach Blaum (Richmond, Va./Atlee) and Santos both tallied a goal, marking Santos' first goal as a Seahawk.
  • First-year forward Matthew Kuwik (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) rounded out the scoring for SMCM in the 62nd minute as Kuwik headed in senior defender Andrew Martinelli's (Rockville, Md./Wheaton) corner kick.
