ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Forwards
Lucas Evans (Greenbelt, Md./South River) and
Nick Haney (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) starred for the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team Saturday afternoon (Nov. 1) in the quarterfinals of the 2025 United East Conference Championship Tournament. Top-seeded St. Mary's College (13-5-1) scored four times in the first half on its way to a 5-0 shutout of ninth-seeded Penn State Berks (4-15-1) to continue its title defense.
The Seahawks, the defending United East champions, advance to the conference tournament semifinals for the fifth consecutive time. SMCM will face No. 5 seed Penn College (10-6-2) in the semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium at 5 pm. Ticket prices will be announced early next week.
How It Happened
- St. Mary's College posted a 2-0 lead within the first 10 minutes of the game as Haney and Evans scored three minutes apart and assisted on each other's goals.
- The Seahawks headed into halftime with a four-goal cushion as SMCM once again netted two goals in a three-minute span. This time, juniors Trey Magnaye (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and Braden Kindred (Olney, Md./Sherwood) found the back of the net. This was Kindred's first goal of the season while it marked the second for Magnaye.
- Defenders Jack Nelson (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) and Ethan Wright (Columbia, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) combined for St. Mary's College's final goal of the game as Wright fed Nelson for the 5-0 final at 61:59.

- The Seahawks finished the game outshooting Berks, 36-2, including a 20-1 margin in shots on goal, while owning a 14-1 margin in corner kicks.
- SMCM moves to 5-0 all-time against the Nittany Lions.
St. Mary's College
- Junior Jordon Eckman (Fallston, Md./Loyola Blakefield) needed just one save for his fifth shutout of the season and to improve his record to 6-2-1.
- Evans and Haney both finished with three points on a goal and an assist.

- Josh Martin came up with 11 saves in 65:45 while Patrick Martin added four stops in relief.
