ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team bounced back Wednesday night (Nov. 12) with a victory in their home-opener. St. Mary's College (2-1) never trailed in the game on its way to an 85-75 non-conference triumph over Regent University (0-1).
How It Happened
- The Seahawks dominated the first half, opening the game with a quick 4-0 spurt before rolling to their biggest lead of the first 20 minutes, 33-11, with 6:58 left in the game following a pair of free throws by senior captain Jake Koverman (Severna Park, Md./Southern).
- Brendan Goods woke up the Regent offense with 10 points in a 20-15 run to close out the half and head into the locker room down, 48-31.
- Sophomore James Crimaudo (Riva, Md./South River) gave SMCM its largest lead of the game, 68-44, with a layup halfway through the second half as St. Mary's College outscored the visitors, 20-13, to start the final stanza.
- The Royals continued to battle and creeped back into the game, closing the gap to 77-71 with 2:12 left as Christian Brown scored 13 points to leverage a 27-9 run.
- The Seahawks held on for the win as first-years Tristan Thompson (Urbana, Md./Urbana) and Kai Hyde (Gaithersburg, Md./T.S. Wootton) combined for eight points in an 8-4 push to end the game.

- SMCM capitalized on Regent's 26 turnovers, gaining 29 points off those miscues.
- The hosts performed well at the free throw line as well, knocking down 22-of-27 for an 81.5-free throw percentage for the game.
