St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team battled throughout but ultimately fell 80–60 to undefeated McDaniel College on Thursday night inside the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena.
McDaniel (4–0) delivered an efficient offensive performance, shooting 53.4% from the field and 44.4% from three, led by a 36-point effort from Elaina Beckett. The Green Terror used a 28–16 third quarter to pull away after taking a 42–29 lead into the break.
St. Mary's (1–2) was paced by Tramarie Mobray, who scored 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting while adding five rebounds and two assists. Keira Mason added 14 points, six assists, and three rebounds, while Olivia Liszt contributed eight points and five boards.
Off the bench, Saffiyah Gibson provided a spark with 11 points, going 5-of-6 from the free throw line, and Marley Saunders supplied defensive energy with a steal and three points in 19 minutes.
The Seahawks forced 18 turnovers and converted them into 23 points, while shooting a strong 16-of-19 (84.2%) at the foul line. However, McDaniel's interior scoring (46 points in the paint) and perimeter accuracy helped the Green Terror maintain control in the second half.
St. Mary's now turns its attention to its lone Division I exhibition of the season, traveling to face Delaware State University on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in Dover, Del.
