St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team opened postseason play with an impressive performance on Tuesday evening, earning a 3–1 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland University in the United East Quarterfinal at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.
With the win, the Seahawks improved to 12–5–2 overall and advanced to the United East Semifinals for the fourth consecutive season.
St. Mary's struck early and controlled the match throughout, outshooting the Gators 37–2 and holding a 10–1 advantage in corner kicks. Keira O'Neail opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a composed finish off a feed from Maddison Spradlin. The Seahawks doubled their lead in the 30th minute when Megan Rusk found the back of the net on an assist from Ashlyn Bonner.
Notre Dame (Md.) pulled one back in the 57th minute to make it 2–1, but the Seahawks sealed the result in the final moments as Sidney Shaw scored in the 89th minute off a setup from Gracie Tourangeau to secure the 3–1 win.
Goalkeeper Breanna Brown earned the victory, recording one save in the full 90 minutes. Rusk led the attack with 10 shots (six on goal), while Brooke Hall added five shots and O'Neail tallied four.
With the win, St. Mary's advances to the United East Semifinals, where the Seahawks will jhost Penn College on Tuesday at 5:00PM.
