St. Mary’s Opens Season with 73–59 Win Over Gwynedd Mercy in Tip-Off Tournament

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. –  The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team tipped off the 2025–26 campaign in dominant fashion Friday night, defeating host Gwynedd Mercy University, 73–59, in the opening round of the Gwynedd Mercy Tip-Off Tournament at The Griffin Complex.

The Seahawks (1–0) used a strong defensive effort and balanced scoring to take control in the second half, outscoring the Griffins 32–24 after the break to pull away for the season-opening victory.

Olivia Liszt led the way for St. Mary's with a game-high 19 points, shooting 8-of-16 from the field and grabbing five rebounds. Tramarie Mobray added 13 points and five rebounds, while Saffiyah Gibson and Skylar Woodyard provided sparks off the bench with 10 and seven points, respectively. Keira Mason anchored the paint with six rebounds and six points, and Marley Saunders contributed six points and a team-high five steals.

The Seahawks capitalized on their pressure defense, forcing 30 turnovers and turning them into 27 points off turnovers. St. Mary's also controlled the glass, outrebounding the Griffins 42–39, and recorded 11 steals and 16 second-chance points.

After the teams traded baskets early, St. Mary's closed the second quarter on a 10–4 run to take a 41–35 lead into halftime. The Seahawks' defensive intensity took over in the fourth quarter, holding Gwynedd Mercy to just 15.4% shooting in the final frame while extending the lead to as many as 14.
