Swarthmore, Pa. – Despite a career night from Samantha Blaylock, the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team fell 59–53 on the road to Swarthmore College on Tuesday evening inside Tarble Pavilion.
St. Mary's (4–3) led 14–12 after the first quarter and battled through a tightly contested opening half before heading to the locker room trailing 27–24. The Seahawks responded with a strong third quarter—outscoring Swarthmore 13–10—to tie the game at 37–37 entering the fourth.
The Garnet (3–5) used a decisive 22-point fourth quarter, fueled by timely three-pointers and free throws, to pull away late despite multiple Seahawks rallies down the stretch.
Samantha Blaylock delivered a standout performance off the bench, pouring in 24 points on 7-of-16 shooting from three to lead all scorers. Saffiyah Gibson added 11 points, while Keira Mason contributed five points, five assists, and two steals in a balanced effort.
Olivia Liszt finished with seven points and four rebounds, while Rayna Miller posted a team-high seven rebounds and hit a key three-pointer late in the third quarter to help tie the game.
St. Mary's forced 23 Swarthmore turnovers, converting them into 23 points, and saw its bench outscore the Garnet's reserves 40–5. However, Swarthmore held a 45–36 rebounding advantage and shot 60.9% from the free-throw line in the final quarter to maintain control.
Swarthmore was led by Vianna Kanyamiheto-Watson, who scored 24 points on 7-of-10 shooting and hit five threes.
The Seahawks return to action this Thursday when they travel to Hood College for a non-conference matchup.
