Frederick, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team used a dominant third quarter to secure a 64–51 road win over Hood College on Thursday night at the Volpe Athletic Center.
After leading 26–18 at halftime, the Seahawks (5–3) erupted for 27 points in the third quarter, holding Hood to just nine, to build a commanding advantage that carried them through the final period. St. Mary's forced 43 turnovers and converted them into 36 points, setting the tone defensively throughout the contest.
St. Mary's placed four players in double figures, led by Keira Mason, who scored 14 points while adding five rebounds and two assists off the bench. Rayna Miller, Tramarie Mobray, and Halimah Hajhassan each finished with 10 points, with Hajhassan also contributing three rebounds and a block in limited minutes.
Olivia Liszt added nine points, eight rebounds, and four assists, while Saffiyah Gibson chipped in six points and six steals to help fuel the Seahawks' defensive pressure.
The Seahawks dominated inside, scoring 38 points in the paint, and won the rebounding battle 34–35, while also holding Hood to just 32 made field goals on the night.
Hood was led by Jaylah Putman with 16 points and Maya Gordon with 14, but the Blazers were limited by St. Mary's ball pressure and transition offense.
St. Mary's continues its strong early-season play as it prepares for its next game vs. Washington College this Saturday, December 13th.
