Seahawks Men’s Basketball Opens Music City Classic with Oswego State

GALLATIN, Tenn. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team began action at the Music City Classic Monday afternoon (Dec. 29) in The Student Activities Center at Welch College. St. Mary's College (4-5) fell below .500 on the season with a 79-55 non-conference loss to SUNY Oswego (6-2).
 
How It Happened
  • The Seahawks claimed the first lead of the game, growing it to an 8-3 advantage at 16:23 as senior captain Jake Koverman (Severna Park, Md./Southern) and sophomore James Crimaudo (Riva, Md./South River) each three points in the opening run.
  • After first-year guard Khairi Hyde (Gaithersburg, Md./Wootton) knocked down a two-point jumper to make it 10-6 in favor of SMCM at 15:36, Oswego State closed out the first half with a 37-18 run for a 19-point halftime lead (43-24).
  • Six points from first-year forward Evan Quintero (Fallston, Md./Gilman) fueled an 11-8 push at the beginning of the second half to trim the deficit to 51-35 at 15:11.
  • Back-to-back fast break layups by Steven Bradley locked up a 20-plus margin for the Lakers over the final 8:19 of the game.

  • SMCM took care of the ball this afternoon, turning the ball over 13 times to match its season best.
  • St. Mary's College finished the game shooting 36.1-percent while connecting on just five of its 14 free throw attempts.
  • Oswego dominated the glass with a 50-38 rebounding margin, including 34 defensive boards to limit the Seahawks to nine second chance points.

  • Deacon Judd led all players with a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds in Oswego's second straight win.
