ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Four Seahawks scored in double figures to lead the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team to a United East Conference-opening win Wednesday evening (Dec. 3). St. Mary's College (3-3, 1-0 UEC) notched a 99-83 triumph over Gallaudet University (0-5, 0-1 UEC) as sophomore
James Crimaudo (Riva, Md./South River) matched his career-high of 23 points.
How It Happened
- The biggest lead for the Seahawks in the first half was an 11-3 advantage in the first three minutes of the game as Crimaudo drained a pair of three-pointers.
- SMCM found it difficult in the first half to distance themselves from Gallaudet as the Bison continued to threaten, eventually taking a 31-28 lead with 5:49 left in the half on an old-fashioned three-point play by Alex Ortman.
- St. Mary's College responded with a 15-8 run to close out the half, which was ignited by seven straight points from senior captain JD Salo (Dunkirk, Md./Northern), and headed into the locker room with a four-point lead.
- The Seahawks turned it on in the second half, owning a double-digit lead for the final 14 minutes of the game. The hosts' largest advantage was a 23-point margin with two minutes to go in the game as first-year guard Nick Baron (Sykesville, Md./Century) notched his first field goal as a Seahawk.

- SMCM finished the night with a season-best .557-field goal percentage as the team connected on 34 of 61 attempts, including making 58.3-percent of their shots in the second half.
- St. Mary's College went 10-of-41 from downtown for a season-high .417-three-point field goal percentage.
- The Seahawks outrebounded Gallaudet, 41-29, as senior captain Jake Koverman (Severna Park, Md./Southern) led the way with a game-best nine rebounds.

- Salo scored in double digits for the first time this season, notching a dozen, while registering season-bests of seven boards and three dimes.

- Ortman led all players with a game-best 25 points off the bench Jory Valencia finished with 16 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds.
