COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Seniors
Jena Vanskiver (Fallston, Md./Fallston),
Emma Watkins (Frederick, Md./Linganore) and
Brenna Ziegler (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) of the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team were recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) with selection to the All-Region IV teams Wednesday (Dec. 3). The
NFHCA All-Region teams are sponsored by
Apex Field Hockey.
Vanskiver and Ziegler both landed on the First Team while Watkins was a repeat pick for the Second Team. All three were named to the
NFHCA Watchlist (Aug. 27) to start off the 2025 campaign.
The trio also earned First Team All-United East Conference awards this season (Nov. 11) while Vanskiver was named the 2025 United East Defensive Player of the Year.
Ziegler is just the second Seahawk field hockey player to collect four all-region honors, joining
Charlotte Horn '25. Ziegler was a First Team selection in 2023 and 2025 while gaining a Second Team award in 2022 and 2024. Eighteen Seahawks have combined for 30 all-region awards in program history.
This is Vanskiver's first-ever all-region award. The 5-3 defender concluded her four-year career as a four-time all-conference selection, notching her first-ever First Team honor this season. She led the United East with seven defensive saves, which is good for 20th in Division III. The team captain also added four goals and two assists this season.
Vanskiver broke the program's all-time defensive saves record on Sept. 13 at Salisbury University with her 16th, surpassing the 15 defensive saves acquired by
Mia Oliver '04 and
Julia Puzak '10. She was named the United East Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.
Vanskiver finished her career with a record-setting 21 defensive saves plus nine goals and seven assists in 75 starts.
Ziegler racked up her fourth consecutive First Team All-United East award as well. The 5-9 forward ranked second in the conference with 15 goals, eight assists, and 38 points while tying for third with four game-winning goals. She picked up United East Offensive Player of the Week awards on Sept. 8 and Oct. 13.
Ziegler broke four program records this season as she became the all-time leader in assists (Aug. 30), points (Sept. 10), goals (Sept. 28), and game-winning goals (Oct. 8). She surpassed
Lauriann Parker '13 for all four records as Parker finished her career with 111 points, 44 goals, 23 assists and 12 game-winning goals.
Ziegler leaves St. Mary's College with 55 goals, 31 assists, 141 points, and 13 game-winning goals in 73 starts.
Watkins ends her career as a two-time Second Team All-Region IV honoree and a two-time First Team All-United East selection. The 4-11 forward tied for the conference lead with seven game-winning goals while tying for third with 13 goals. She also sat fourth with 28 points while adding two assists. The team captain was named the United East Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 20.
Watkins put up 33 goals, five assists, 71 points and 10 game-winning goals in 71 games played with 45 starts throughout her career.
The 2025 campaign ended with St. Mary's College making its third straight (third overall) appearance in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship Tournament. The Seahawks claimed both the United East regular-season and tournament championship titles for the second consecutive season. Additionally, SMCM recorded its fifth straight undefeated conference record, going 26-0 over the past five league regular seasons.
