St. Mary’s College Women’s Indoor Track & Field Opens 2025-26 Campaign

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's indoor track & field team began the 2025-26 season Saturday (Dec. 6) at the Christopher Newport University Holiday Open.
 
How It Happened
  • Junior Jillian Zukley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) captured the shot put with 11.67m while first-year Breanna Brown (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) came in fifth in her collegiate debut with a throw of 9.86m
  • Zukley posted a school record in the first meet of her junior campaign, notching 15.11m in the weight throw for second. Zukley knocked off her own mark of 13.79m set on Jan. 31, 2025, at the Marlin Invitational.
  • Following a year away from the team, junior Savannah Owens (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) collected three Top 5 finishes and a school record in her return. Owens took second in the 600m run in a school record 1:44.22 while junior Avery Arizzi (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) placed third in 1:44.25. Owens broke the previous school record of 1:49.93 set by Arizzi on Dec. 2, 2023.
  • Owens then finished third in the 800m run in 2:35.81 while Arizzi came in fourth in 2:36.00.
  • The foursome of Owens, Arizzi, first-year Lacey Schleig (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point), and junior Ellie Geiger (California, Md./Leonardtown) tallied a fourth-place finish in the 4x400m in 4:49.38.
  • Schleig put forth a solid effort in her collegiate debut. Along with her fourth-place finish as a member of the 4x400m relay, she took sixth in the finals of the 60m hurdles in 10.09 after placing fourth in the preliminaries in 9.78.
  • Schleig also earned a sixth-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.44m.
  • First-year Charlotte Crabtree (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) notched a fourth-place finish in the 5000m in 22:09.65.
  • First-year Elle Wilson (Westminster, Md./Westminster) paced the Seahawks in the 1-mile run with a sixth-place finish in 6:18.58.
  • First-year Molly Hieatzman (Sykesville, Md./Century) went sixth in the 3000m in 12:34.44.
  • Sophomore Kayla Thomas (Baltimore, Md./Northeast Senior) placed 15th in the preliminaries of the 60m dash in 10.19 while finishing 31st in the 200m dash in 35.66.
