ASHLAND, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team held on for their second straight win Saturday afternoon (Feb. 22). St. Mary's College (2-1) withstood a five-goal run in the fourth quarter by Randolph-Macon College (3-1) to claim an 11-10 non-conference win.
How It Happened
- The Seahawks and R-MC alternated the first four goals of the game as the first quarter ended in a 2-2 draw.
- SMCM broke the tie by scoring the first three goals of the second period to lead 5-2 at 7:16. The Yellow Jackets responded with two of their own before St. Mary's College notched the final two of the half for a 7-4 advantage at the break.
- The hosts opened the third frame with a Peyton Rodriguez goal to pull within two. The Seahawks tripled their lead with four unanswered goals to stake an 11-5 margin with 9:40 remaining in the game.
- Randolph-Macon jumped in the driver's seat and fired off five straight to close the gap to 11-10 with 44 seconds to go. The Yellow Jackets won the ensuing face-off and generated three shots, with the first one being blocked, the second one going high, and the final one being saved by senior Cullen McKay (Urbana, Md./Urbana). Senior defenseman Jeremy Heath (Chester, Md./Kent Island) picked up the loose ball after McKay's save, ending R-MC's comeback attempt.

- Heath and junior defenseman Joe Szymanski (Easton, Md./Easton) each caused two turnovers while Heath scooped up three loose balls and Szymanski added two ground balls.
- McKay finished the game with a season-best 11 saves and two ground balls to improve to 2-0 on the season.

- Matt Carter paced the Yellow Jackets with three goals while Jack Twomey made 11 saves in the team's first loss of the season.
