St. Mary's College Women's Basketball Squeaks Past Saint Elizabeth in United East Conference Quarter Finals

St. Mary's City, MD,-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Basketball Team (19-7) hosted a United East Conference Quarter Final matchup against Saint Elizabeth (15-12). The Seahawks defeated the Eagles, 64-63.

How It Happened

  • The Eagles jumped out in front of the Seahawks 16-13 after the first period of play. Tramarie Mobray contributed a team high four points while Sam Blaylock knocked down a three pointer for the Seahawks in the quarter. Saint Elizabeth scored eight of the last ten points of the stanza to earn their three point lead. 

  • The story of the second quarter was an 11-0 run by the Eagles that spanned three minutes and gave Saint Elizabeth a 10 point lead. The Seahawks cut into the lead after six straight points from Tramarie Mobray, Marley Saunders, and Keira Mason made it a four point deficit. Saint Elizabeth ended up scoring a three pointer at the end of the half to grow their lead back to nine. 

  • The Seahawks came out of the halftime locker room with their hair on fire, out scoring the Eagles 22-7 in the third period. Olivia Liszt connected on three three pointers in the frame and Saffiyah Gibson chipped in six points in the quarter as well. The big quarter from St. Mary's allowed them to take a six point lead into the final 10 minutes. 

  • St. Mary's scored a couple baskets to begin the fourth quarter to grow their lead to 11 points. Saint Elizabeth was able to respond from that point and stormed back to tie the game at 60, and even went on to take a two point lead. Tramarie Mobray came through in the clutch to tie the game at 62 with a minute left. The Eagles drew a foul with 28 seconds left and connected on a free throw to take a one point lead. With their backs against the wall, Tramarie Mobray came through in the clutch with eight seconds left to put in a layup to give St. Mary's back the lead. The Eagles took one last three pointer to win the game, but could not put it in. The Seahawks took home the playoff win, 64-63. 

Inside the Box Score

  • Tramarie Mobray led the way for the Seahawks with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Mobray also scored the game winning basket with eight seconds left. 

  • Olivia Liszt chipped in 16 points, including three three pointers. 

  • Saffiyah Gibson scored 14 points and picked up a steal.
