Women's Indoor Track & Field Earn United East Championship Title

Landover, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's indoor track and field team travelled up the road to Landover, Md. for the United East Conference Indoor Championships. The Seahawks took home the 1st place finish for the first Championship Title in team history. The Seahawks competed against four other institutions for a total of 203 points, earning points in 15 out of 16 events. The women's indoor track and field team came away with major award winners with Rookie of the Year, Field Athlete of the Year, Track Athlete of the Year, and Coach of the Year.
 
How It Happened:
  • Four Seahawks raced in the 60 meter dash prelims, with Rocksann Smith and Chay'La Rivers earning their spots in the finals with times of 8.09 and 8.16 respectively. Smith set a new St. Mary's School Record and personal best with the 8.09 finish.  Rivers set what will become the 3rd place St. Mary's School Record and new personal best with the 8.16 finish.  Jessica Satz and Kayla Thomas ran 10.34 and 10.47 respectively, both earning new personal bests.
  • The 60 meter dash finals saw Chay'La Rivers tying the new St. Mary's School Record and setting another personal best in a time of 8.09 and taking 2nd place overall.  Rocksann Smith earned a 3rd place finish- setting a St. Mary's second-best overall time and a new personal best.
  • Chay'La Rivers took 1st in the 60m Hurdles in a time of 9.79. Following just behind earning 2nd place was Rocksann Smith with a new personal best of 9.89. Taking 4th place was Dina Jones in 12.29 earning a personal record.
  • Rocksann Smith led six Seahawks in the 200 meter dash in a 2nd place finish in 27.61. Chay'La Rivers followed after in 28.27 for a 5th place finish. Grace Hountangni and Kayla Thomas rounded out the top six Seahawks with 34.25 and 35.27 respectively, both earning personal records.
  • Five Seahawks competed in the 400 meter event led by Avery Arizzi earning 2nd with a time of 1:03.36. Dami Akinsanya finished just behind in 3rd place in a time of 1:05.46 and a new personal best. Chloe Tolson rounded out the top three with a 4th place finish in 1:07.30. Grace Hountangni finished in the top five Seahawks with a personal best of 1:21.45.
  • Mileah Cotton led five Seahawks in the 800 meter run.  Cotton finished in 2:27.97 for a 1st place finish, and both a new St. Mary's School Record and personal best.  Dina Jones and Ellie Geiger finished in the top three Seahawks in 3:01.06 6th place and 3:02.01 7th place. Geiger set a personal best.  Alexis Hodges followed after with a new personal best in 3:05.93.
  • Mileah Cotton led five Seahawks in the 1 Mile with a 1st place finish and a time of 5:27.50, setting a St. Mary's School Record and personal record. Three other Seahawks earned personal bests with Macy Woroniecki in 4th place with 5:44.80. Ariana Lecouras in 6th place with 6:12.43. Ellie Geiger in 9th place with 6:42.05.
  • Three Seahawks competed in the women's 3000 meter run.  Ella Mitchell led the way finished in 2nd with a time of 11:56.73. Madison Kingsley followed just after in a time of 12:18.11 setting a personal record and earning a 3rd place finish. Ariana Lecouras finished behind in 4th place with a time of 12:24.44.
  • Ariana Lecouras ran for the Seahawks in the 5K event. Leacouras finished in 2nd in a time of 22:55.48.
  • The 4x400 Meter Relay squad of Dami Akinsanya, Avery Arizzi, Chloe Tolson, and Mileah Cotton took a 1st place finish with a time of 4:24.54.
  • The Women's Distance Medley Relay squad of Madison Kingsley, Macy Woroniecki, Dina Jones, and Ellie Geiger earned a 2nd place finish with a time of 14:55.43.
  • Rocksann Smith led the two Seahawks in the High Jump.  Smith took 1st place with a new St. Mary's School Record and personal record with a height of 1.50 meters. Chay'La Rivers earned 2nd place with a height of 1.40 meters.
  • Rocksann Smith jumped 4.73 meters for the Long Jump in the first jump of six attempts, earning a 2nd place finish. Chay'La Rivers followed just behind with a jump of 4.56 meters on the fifth jump of six attempts.
  • Two Seahawks competed in the Triple Jump.  Rocksann Smith finished with a jump of 10.06 meters in 2nd place. Chay'La Rivers finished with 9.94 meters in 3rd place.  
  • Two of six Seahawks placed in the Finals in the Shot Put event, led by 2nd place finish Jillian Zukley with a throw of 11.91 meters on the first of six attempts. Rocksann Smith took 5th place with a throw of 9.01m, earning a personal record on the second throw of six attempts.
  • Jillian Zukley led five Seahawks in the Weight Throw with a throw of 12.62 meters on the sixth throw of six attempts. Fladaina Bruno earned 3rd place with a throw of 12.28m, setting a personal best on the sixth throw of six attempts. Safi Stimely rounded out the Seahawks in the Finals with a throw of 9.61 meters.
