WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior midfielder
Jake Levey (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) had a hand in two of the game's final three goals to help lift the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team to a non-conference road win Wednesday night (Mar. 5). St. Mary's College (3-2) notched a 14-12 triumph over The Catholic University of America (1-3) as the Seahawks scored three in the final 2:51 of the game.
How It Happened
- Catholic claimed a 4-1 lead at 5:28 following a pair of 2-0 runs, including scoring two goals in a 33-second. SMCM responded with three unanswered goals in 90 seconds to knot the game at four-all at 2:15.
- The Cardinals then notched two goals in 36 seconds to strike a 6-4 margin at 1:31 before sophomore Declan Horton (University Park, Md./DeMatha Catholic) made it a one-goal game with three ticks on the clock.
- CUA began the second quarter with another 2-0 run to rebuild a three-goal lead at 9:15. St. Mary's College closed out the half with a 4-1 run as four different Seahawks found the back of the net to head into halftime in a 9-9 draw.
- SMCM outscored the hosts, 2-1, in the third frame to stake its first lead of the game, 11-10, with one quarter left to play.
- The Cardinals started the final period with two goals in three minutes to reclaim a 12-11 lead at 11:11. Neither side scored for the next eight minutes until Horton tallied his fourth of the night off a Levey assist to tie the game at 12-12 at 2:51. St. Mary's College then went up 13-12 on an unassisted tally by senior captain Nate Hochrein (Baltimore, Md./Towson).
- Levey tacked on an insurance marker with 48 seconds left in regulation to seal the win for the Seahawks.

- St. Mary's College edged the Cardinals, 38-37, behind junior Matteo Ciccarello's (Crofton, Md./Arundel) game- and season-best 12 ground balls.

- Levey matched his career-bests of three assists and four points while scoring his first goal of the season.
- Junior defenseman Joe Szymanski (Easton, Md./Easton) led the defense with a career-best 10 ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- Senior Cullen McKay (Urbana, Md./Urbana) made 11 saves for his fourth straight double-digit save performance while scooping up two loose balls.
Catholic Game Notes
- Victor Rosado ended the contest with a game-best six points on three goals and three assists while Ryan Carickhoff and Brady McMahon each tallied three goals and an assist.
- In goal, Liam Daly had 12 stops and five ground balls.
