Ewing, N.J. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's outdoor track and field team athlete
Rocksann Smith travelled to Ewing, N.J. to compete in the Heptathlon. The events include 100m hurdles, 200m, 800m, high jump, javelin throw, long jump, and shot put over the course of two days. Smith earned a score of 3772 points, meeting the qualifying standard for AARTFC and setting the St. Mary's school record for the heptathlon. Smith also set a new St. Mary's school record in the long jump.
How It Happened:
- Smith set a personal record in the 100m Hurdles in a time of 16.37 for +670 points.
- The 200m dash was an outdoor debut for Smith, finishing in a time of 27.88 for +640 points.
- Smith set a personal record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:51.73 for +446 points.
- Smith finished with a height of 1.44m in the high jump for +555 points.
- Smith finished in 3rd place in the javelin throw with a distance of 27.90m on the second throw of three attempts, earning +437 points.
- Setting a St. Mary's school record in the long jump with a jump of 4.88m, was also an outdoor debut for Smith and earned +527 points.
- Smith tied the personal best in shot put with a throw of 9.50m, earning a 4th place finish and +497 points.
