Washington, D.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's outdoor track and field team travelled to Washington D.C. to compete at the Bison Classic hosted by Gallaudet University. The Seahawks faced off against both Division I, III teams and independent track clubs.
How It Happened:
- The 100-meter dash prelims saw all five Seahawks competing reach personal bests. Avery Arizzi led the way in 14.10. Dami Akinsanya, Ji-Young Hartman followed just behind in 14.41 and 14.97 respectively. Rounding out the five were Grace Hountangni and Kayla Thomas in 15.76 and 17.20.
- Saffiyah Gibson led five Seahawks in the 200-meter dash in a finish of 29.80 in 7th place and a personal best. Rounding out the top three was Dina Jones and Ji-Young Hartman in 31.73 and 33.01 each.
- Two Seahawks competed in the 400-meter event led by Dina Jones earning a time of 1:13.29. Saffiyah Gibson came in just behind in a time of 1:13.69.
- Ella Mitchell led the Seahawks in the 10K event. Mitchell finished in 1st place in time of 43:37.36 and a personal record. In 3rd place is Alexis Hodges with a personal best time of 53:31.75.
- Jessica Satz threw for the Seahawks in the Discus Throw. Satz earned a throw of 20.62m on the third attempt of six tries.
- Two Seahawks competed in the Javelin Throw. Jessica Satz finished in 8th with a distance of 13.93m. Halimah Hajhassan earned an outdoor debut with a throw of 11.50m.
- Rocksann Smith earned an outdoor Shot Put debut with a 3rd place finish of 9.50m on the sixth throw. Jessica Satz and Halimah Hajhassan threw 7.38m and 6.79m respectively.
