SMCM Baseball Stumbles in Game One of United East Final Four

Edwardsville, PA-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Baseball Team (13-15) made the trip to Pennsylvania for the United East Conference Final Four. The Seahawks took on Penn State Harrisburg (32-9-1) in game one and fell 11-2.

How It Happened

  • Penn State Harrisburg broke the ice in the bottom of the third inning, taking a 1-0 lead.

  • The Seahawks were able to get runners in scoring position over the first several innings, but could not get them across home plate.

  • The Lions scored 10 runs over the course of the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings.

  • The best chance for St. Mary's to answer came in the top of the sixth inning with runners at second and third with one out. Unfortunately for the Seahawks, Ian Walters got caught stealing home and Corey Brown struck out to end the inning.

  • The Seahawks put on their rally caps in the top of the ninth inning, scoring on back to back at bats thanks to Layne Lesko and Eli Shafer RBI's. The rally ended there for the Seahawks, as they fell 11-2.

Inside the Box Score

  • Layne Lesko led the way offensively with two hits and an RBI.

  • Ryder Chalk pitched six and a quarter inning. Chalk faced 31 batters and gave up seven earned runs. Jack Overton pitched an inning and faced eight batters.
