LATHAM, N.Y. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team claimed two of the four major awards when the United East Conference office released the 2025 All-United East selections Wednesday morning (May 7). Additionally, seven Seahawks earned all-conference honors.

Hailey Betch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) picked up the United East Offensive Player of the Year award for the second time in her career while junior
Carsyn Smith (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) garnered United East Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Nine Seahawk women's lacrosse players have now earned a Player of the Year award in program history. Four Seahawks collected five Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors while
Lucy Gussio '22 (2022) and Betch (2023 and 2025) notched the United East Offensive Player of the Year titles. In addition,
Mary-Kate Fitzpatrick '22 (2022),
Rachael Freeman '24 (2023), and Smith (2025) have been named United East Defensive Player of the Year.

Colin Horton (University Park, Md./Elizabeth Seton), and junior
Katelin Scala (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales) were all First Team honorees while seniors
Ella Baynes (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) and
Kayla Kopf (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) and sophomore
Hope Harrison (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales) all landed on the Second Team.
Now, a two-time United East Offensive Player of the Year, Betch wraps up her career as a four-time First Team All-United East selection. The 6-0 attacker led the league this season with 77 points and 34 assists while finishing tied for third with a team second-best 43 goals and tied for fifth with a team third-best 51 draw controls. She added three United East Offensive Player of the Week selections during her senior campaign.
Betch leaves the SMCM women's lacrosse program as the all-time points leader with 323 points on 215 goals and 108 assists while collecting 266 draw controls in 74 career games.
Smith is making her second appearance on the First Team after earning the same honor as a first year in 2023. The 5-5 defender ranked first in the conference with 29 caused turnovers while coming in second with a team-best 43 ground balls. She also added a team fifth-best 28 draw controls plus a goal and an assist. Smith was named the United East Defensive Player of the Week three times this season.
Horton worked both sides of the fields in earning her third First Team All-United East selection after garnering the same award in 2022 and 2023. The 5-9 midfielder ended her senior season as the league's top goal scorer with 59 in 2025 while tying for second with a team second-best 68 points. She was also fourth in the United East with a team second-best 52 draws while leading SMCM with 12 free-position goals. Horton was selected as both the United East Offensive (April 7) and Defensive (Feb. 24) Player of the Week this season.
Horton wrapped up her Seahawk career with 215 career points on 183 goals and 32 assists while adding 189 draw controls in 62 career games.
Scala is collecting her third consecutive First Team award. The 5-5 attacker finished second in the conference with 23 assists and fifth with 51 points. She also contributed a team fifth-best 28 goals plus a team fourth-best 38 draw controls and a team fifth-best 20 ground balls.
Baynes is picking up her first-ever postseason honor after tying third for the Seahawks with 15 assists ranking fifth with 42 points. The 5-2 attacker also tallied 27 goals and 13 caused turnovers. She finished her two-year career at St. Mary's College with 48 goals and 23 assists in 37 career games.
Kopf is also earning her first career all-conference honors. The 5-8 defender tied for third on the squad with 13 caused turnovers while adding 14 ground balls. In three years as a Seahawk, she notched 36 ground balls and 28 caused turnovers plus one goal in 52 career games.
Harrison is the third first-timer as the 5-5 midfielder enjoyed a career-best campaign. She contributed 23 goals and nine dimes for 32 points in all 18 games this season.
St. Mary's College (10-8, 4-0 UEC) collected its fourth straight United East championship tournament title to earn its 12th bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament, bowing out in the first round. The Seahawks earned their fourth consecutive conference regular-season championship crown with their fourth undefeated season in a row.
