LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Monday (July 21) that the St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team was one of 1,450 volleyball programs to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT for the 2024-25 season.

The AVCA Team Academic Award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average (GPA) of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.

This is the 12th time (and second straight) in program history that St. Mary's College has garnered the Team Academic Award. The Seahawks posted a 3.670 team GPA during the 2024-25 academic year.

SMCM notched an 18-11 (9-1 UEC) overall record last season, advancing to the conference tournament semifinals for the first time since 2015 and notching their first winning season since 2016. St. Mary's College also tallied the most conference wins in program history with nine, surpassing the earlier mark of seven in 2008. The Seahawks also registered their second straight 10-plus win season for the first time in eight years.
