Greensboro, N.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's volleyball team opened the 2025 season with a split at the Greensboro Tri-Match on Saturday at Hanes Gymnasium. The Seahawks dropped their opener to host Greensboro College, 3–0, before bouncing back with a sweep of Warren Wilson College in the afternoon.
Match 1 – Greensboro 3, St. Mary's 0
The Seahawks battled in all three sets but came up short, falling 25–16, 25–23, 25–15. Hope Parrish paced the attack with 11 kills on .435 hitting, while Maya Mauro added nine kills and 12 digs. Erianna Mendieta chipped in five kills and five digs, and Camilla Galeano handed out 14 assists to go with eight digs. Defensively, Stella Marrero led the back row with 14 digs.
Match 2 – St. Mary's 3, Warren Wilson 0
St. Mary's rebounded in convincing fashion, defeating the Owls 25–19, 25–23, 25–16 for its first victory of the season. The Seahawks spread the offense around with Maya Mauro and Erianna Mendieta each posting six kills, while Faith Shockley and Vlada Costenco added four apiece. Lauren Panageotou tallied 12 assists and two aces, with Galeano contributing 10 assists and two aces of her own. Defensively, Mendieta recorded 15 digs, while Elizabeth Childs notched 11.
As a team, St. Mary's hit .149 in the win and served up 10 aces while limiting Warren Wilson to a .000 hitting percentage.
With the split, the Seahawks start the season 1–1. St. Mary's will return to action on Friday, September 5th as they take on Southern Virginia in the W&L invitational. .
