BALTIMORE, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team was dominant in their first road game of the season, putting up eight goals Wednesday night (Sept. 10). St. Mary's College (4-0) notched an 8-0 non-conference victory over Goucher College (1-3) as senior forwards
Elena Pasko (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) and
Emma Watkins (Frederick, Md./Linganore) each scored two goals.
Senior forward
Brenna Ziegler (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) became the program's all-time points leader with her one-goal performance tonight. Ziegler now stands alone at the top of the points list with 113 points, surpassing the career mark of 111 set by
Lauriann Parker '13.
How It Happened
- The Seahawks scored in three of the four quarters, including a pair of three-goal frames.
- Watkins gave SMCM a 1-0 less than two minutes into the game and then 12 minutes later, senior midfielder Sofia Lopez (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) doubled the advantage.
- St. Mary's College outscored the hosts, 10-0, in the second period but Katie Bloom made five saves to hold the Seahawks at 2-0 heading into halftime.
- Pasko tallied her two goals four minutes apart in the third stanza for a four-goal lead at 40:22. Ziegler added her name to the tally sheet at 42:38 for a five-goal cushion going into the fourth quarter.
- Watkins recorded her second goal of the night less than two minutes into the fourth while first-year Kristina Wujciak (Gainesville, Va./Gainesville) scored her first goal as a Seahawk at 47:52. Senior midfielder Josie Shermeyer (Harrisburg, Pa./East Pennsboro) hammered in the final goal at 51:26.

- St. Mary's College put up a season-best 44 shots for a 44-4 advantage, including a 26-0 shots on goal margin.
- The Seahawks also notched an 18-3 margin in penalty corners.

- Goalkeepers Sophia Kent (Chesterville, Md./Gunston) and Caroline McDonald (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) combined for the team's second shutout of the season.
- SMCM improved its record against Goucher to 16-8 with tonight's victory.

- Bloom finished with 15 saves through the first three periods while Mimi Taff made three stops in relief.
