Women’s Soccer Falls Late at Stevenson

Owings Mills, Md. – St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer (2-2-2) battled for 86 minutes on the road Wednesday night, but a late goal lifted host Stevenson University (2-1-1) over the visiting Seahawks.

The Seahawks generated plenty of opportunities throughout the contest, outshooting the Mustangs 15-11 and holding a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Forward Ella Raines paced the attack with three shots, while Megan Rusk, Ashlyn Bonner, Julia Kleine, and Gracie Tourangeau each added two shots a piece.

Despite St. Mary's offensive pressure, Stevenson goalkeeper Isabella Serano turned away all seven Seahawk attempts on frame. On the defensive end, seahawk goalkeeper Kyleigh Bland kept St. Mary's in the match with eight saves, including five in the opening half.

The breakthrough came in the 87th minute when Stevenson's Kamille Purcell scored the lone goal of the match, ultimately securing the decision for the Mustangs.

St. Mary's will look to bounce back this weekend when the Seahawks travel to Randolph-Macon on Saturday, September 13th for a non-conference matchup.
