OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team made it a two-game unbeaten streak Saturday afternoon (Sept. 13) with their third victory of the season. St. Mary's College (3-3-1) picked up a 2-1 triumph over Stevenson University (3-3-0) despite playing a man down for nearly 69 minutes.
How It Happened
- The Seahawks gained the early lead as junior midfielder Tyler Foti (Annandale, Va./Annandale) found the back of the net in the 10th minute with a low free kick from just outside the penalty box into the lower left corner.
- Senior captain Jack Nelson (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) was sent off at 21:38 with a straight red, leaving SMCM to play with just 10 players for the rest of the game.
- Stevenson knotted the game at 1-all at 28:33 after Zack Reightler dribbled into the left side of the box and then right-footed a shot off the far post into the lower right corner.
- The two sides headed into halftime in a 1-1 draw.
- Junior forward Franco Reyes (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) netted the would-be game-winning goal in the 65th minute as Reyes ran unto a long pass from sophomore midfielder Zach Blaum (Richmond, Va./Atlee) as he split two Mustang defenders and took a couple of dribbles before beating Nolen Olson-Warwick with a shot to the left side of the goal for his second goal of the season.
- The hosts peppered the St. Mary's College defense over the final 25 minutes with six shots and five corner kicks. Junior goalie Zack Reed (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) came up with two saves to preserve the Seahawks' victory.
