ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team saw their two-game unbeaten streak halted Saturday evening (Sept. 20). St. Mary's College (3-4-1) suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 non-conference loss to Bridgewater (Va.) College (5-1-1) in the final nine minutes of the game.
How It Happened
- It was a high scoring offense in the first 13 minutes of the game as each team scored twice.
- Junior forward Franco Reyes (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) landed the Seahawks on the scoreboard first at 2:25. Reyes ran onto a long pass from junior midfielder Tyler Foti (Annandale, Va./Annandale) and took one touch past the outstretched Bridgewater goalie before finishing into an empty net.
- The Eagles notched a game-tying goal 34 seconds later off the foot of Anthony Eugenio. Eugenio then had a hand in giving BC a 2-1 lead at 7:55 as he fed Cole Dunbar for the one-goal advantage.
- Five minutes later, SMCM netted an equalizer of its own. junior defender Ethan Wright (Columbia, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) connected with sophomore midfielder Zach Blaum (Richmond, Va./Atlee) just inside the right side of the box. Blaum then chipped a cross to the far post where sophomore forward Nick Haney (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) headed it in for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
- Riley Queen, after getting knocked down in the penalty box, converted the game-winning penalty kick at 81:15, finding the lower right corner.
